Is GS staffing up or down? Conflicting signals

Been keeping an eye on GS recently. The news has been all over the place with layoff rumors – some sources saying thousands are gone or going, others saying it's just India or specific divisions. But then I see job postings opening up in other areas, and some teams seem to be hiring. It’s really confusing. Are they doing a big shuffle, cutting in some places and expanding in others? Or is this just a standard performance review cycle that’s being misconstrued as mass layoffs? It's hard to tell what's real when the official word is silence and the unofficial word is chaos. Anyone on the inside have a clearer picture of the headcount situation?

It's definitely a mixed bag out there. I've heard similar chatter about strategic hiring in certain growth areas, like tech and sustainable finance, while other, more traditional desks might be seeing cuts or consolidation. It could be a classic 'right-sizing' exercise, where they're shifting resources rather than a simple headcount reduction across the board. Performance management cycles often fuel these rumors, unfortunately.
