Rumor mill is churning - hearing whispers about Q1 headcount cuts?

Anyone else hearing chatter about potential layoffs hitting in Q1? I'm in tech (VP level) and things have been...quiet. Too quiet. Usually Q1 is busy with planning and new initiatives, but it feels like everyone's holding their breath. I overheard a conversation between two MDs the other day mentioning 'efficiency measures' and 'resource optimization,' which, let's be honest, is code for 'people are getting canned.' I've been through this before, and the lead-up is always the worst. Anyone have any concrete info, or is it just my anxiety getting the best of me? I've been here for 8 years and built a good reputation but with the market the way it is, who knows what will happen? I'm bracing myself and trying to update my resume, just in case.

Yeah, the 'quiet' thing is definitely a red flag. I'm in a different division, but experiencing the same vibe. Remember back in '08 when they started delaying project approvals? Same playbook. Start polishing your resume and discreetly network. Better to be prepared than blindsided. Good luck, VP!

Honestly, I take all these rumors with a massive grain of salt. There's ALWAYS layoff chatter, especially after a tough year. 'Efficiency measures' could just mean trimming the fat from underperforming projects. Focus on your work, deliver results, and try not to get sucked into the paranoia. Easier said than done, I know, but stressing about something you can't control is a waste of energy.
