Heard the layoffs hit Search pretty hard today...

Just heard through the grapevine that Search got hit pretty badly today. A bunch of people on my team knew folks directly affected. Seems like they were targeting more senior roles this time around - directors and tech leads. I'm in Cloud, so technically safe (for now?), but it's still unsettling to see so many talented people getting the boot. Anyone else have more details or insights into which teams were most impacted? I'm hearing rumors about restructuring, but nothing concrete. Wishing everyone the best who was affected. This sucks.

Yeah, I saw a few posts on LinkedIn from ex-Search folks. Seems like the re-org rumors might have some truth to them. I'm hearing whispers about a shift in priorities and a consolidation of teams. It's rough, especially for those who've been there a while. Always sucks to see talented people lose their jobs, regardless of the reason. Time to dust off my resume, just in case...

Honestly, Google has been bloated for years. They've got entire teams working on products that nobody asked for. Some attrition might actually be a good thing, forcing them to focus on their core strengths again. Maybe this will finally spark some innovation instead of just incremental changes. Layoffs are never fun, but let's not pretend it's all doom and gloom.
