Well, it happened. After a decade with the company, I'm part of the latest 'restructuring.' I'm still processing everything. I was in the Cloud division, a senior engineer. Honestly, I'm just angry and sad. Ten years. All the late nights, the projects I poured my heart into...gone. The VP gave the usual corporate spiel about 'strategic realignment' and 'difficult decisions,' but it rings hollow. What really stings is seeing some of the newer hires, the ones who barely know the codebase, still around. I guess loyalty doesn't count for much anymore. Time to dust off the resume and see what's out there. Wish me luck.

That's rough, buddy. Ten years is a long time. I know the feeling of corporate buzzwords offering no comfort. My company did something similar a few years back. Honestly, take the time you need to grieve the loss. Then, dust off that resume. Your skills as a senior engineer, especially in Cloud, are valuable. Start networking now. You've got this!

"Strategic realignment" usually means 'we messed up and now someone has to pay.' Cloud is definitely a competitive space. Wonder what that really means for Google's priorities going forward, and who made the cut. Makes you wonder about company loyalty these days. At least you'll probably get a decent severance package after that much time.
