Petition for layoff protections - thoughts?

Saw that a bunch of Googlers signed a petition asking for better layoff protections, especially with all the changes happening internally and with new tech. Honestly, I get it. The way things have been going, with these quiet cuts and reorganizations, it feels like job security isn't what it used to be, even at a place like Google. It's good to see people organizing and trying to have a voice, but I'm not sure how much impact a petition will have in the long run. Has anyone else signed it or have thoughts on what the company might actually do in response? Seems like a lot of talk and not enough concrete action to reassure people who are worried about their jobs.
