Was your bonus affected by the layoffs?

So, the recent news about the layoffs is obviously bad, but I'm also starting to think about the downstream effects. For those who stayed, did you notice any changes to your performance review cycle or, more importantly, your bonus payout this year? I've been at Google for [X] years, and my team in [redacted product area] didn't have any layoffs directly, but the overall mood is just… off. Rumors are flying about budget freezes and 'cost optimization' affecting everyone, including comp. Has anyone received their bonus and noticed a difference compared to previous years, maybe tied to the company's recent performance or the headcount reduction messaging? Trying to get a sense if we're all in for a rougher comp cycle.

Yeah, I'm hearing the same whispers. My manager has been super cagey about bonus targets this year, which is a red flag for me. Last year was solid, but this year feels like we're being managed to a much tighter bottom line. It's tough when you're trying to stay motivated but the signals are all about belt-tightening. Hopefully, it's just a temporary belt-tightening and not a sign of deeper issues.

I haven't seen any direct impact on my bonus yet, but the atmosphere is definitely more tense. People are definitely more cautious with spending and travel requests are getting more scrutiny. I think it's smart for the company to be prudent, but it does make you wonder if the 'growth at all costs' era is truly over. Just focusing on delivering my best work and hoping for the best.
