Middle management seems to be disappearing

Has anyone else noticed how many managers have 'left for personal reasons' or 'decided to pursue other opportunities' over the last two months? It feels like there’s a quiet culling happening in the middle ranks without an official announcement. My direct supervisor just vanished last week, and now I’m reporting to a director who has absolutely no time for my team. It’s making the day-to-day operations a nightmare, and the lack of communication is honestly insulting. If they’re planning on thinning the herd, can they just rip the band-aid off instead of letting us bleed out slowly? The uncertainty is killing morale faster than the actual work is. Just wondering if this is a company-wide trend or if my department is just getting singled out.

It is honestly becoming a pattern at Hershey lately. My department lost two project leads in a single month with zero transition planning. It feels like the company is pushing a heavy automation agenda while gutting the human infrastructure that actually keeps the wheels turning. If you are reporting to a director now, expect to be ignored until things break, at which point it will somehow become your fault. Start updating your resume quietly because this top-down efficiency drive is only going to get more chaotic.

I have been tracking the departures in the internal directory, and the rate of attrition is definitely not normal. Management keeps using the phrase 'streamlining' in company-wide emails, but the reality on the ground is just more work for those of us left behind with no clear direction. When an entire layer of supervision gets wiped out, it usually precedes a massive shift in strategy or even more painful cuts. Do not wait for an official announcement that likely isn't coming. Protect your own interests and look for greener pastures before your department is next on the chopping block.
