Severance Package Questions - Need Advice!

If (god forbid) I get laid off, what should I expect in terms of severance? I've been here for 5 years, and I'm in a software engineering role. Is the standard two weeks per year of service? What about unused vacation time? Also, does anyone have experience negotiating a better package? Any tips on what to ask for or how to approach that conversation? I'm trying to be proactive and understand my options beforehand. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Sorry to hear you're potentially facing this. While I can't give you exact numbers for HP, two weeks per year is fairly common, but it can vary. Definitely expect to be paid out for accrued vacation time. Regarding negotiation, do your research! See what similar roles and experience levels are getting in the current market. Showing you know your worth strengthens your position. Good luck!

Honestly, don't get your hopes too high on negotiating a much better package. They have guidelines, and HR usually sticks to them pretty closely. Five years isn't really that long these days. Focus more on networking NOW, updating your resume, and getting your LinkedIn profile polished. That's a far better use of your time and energy than dreaming about a golden parachute that probably isn't coming.
