660 gone: The reality of the October 7th cuts

I didn't think it would happen to my department, but here I am, typing this from my personal laptop. I got the invite yesterday morning with the generic 'your role is impacted' subject line. 660 of us out the door just like that. I spent years building out my documentation and trying to be a 'culture carrier' for this place. It’s brutal realizing how quickly they can just pull the plug on you. My access was cut within ten minutes of the email hitting my inbox. No time to say goodbye to the team, no closure, just a severance package and a 'good luck.' I know the news sites are reporting the 'restructuring' narrative, but on the ground, it felt chaotic. There was no real transparency leading up to this, despite all the town halls we had about being 'human-centric.' If you’re still inside, watch your back. If you’re like me, start downloading your performance reviews and contact lists now—don't wait until your SSO gets locked. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, especially when you bought into the mission, but I guess that’s just the current state of SaaS. Take care of yourselves.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. It is absolutely dehumanizing how companies handle these mass layoffs, especially the immediate lockout. Please remember that your value as a person isn't tied to a badge or an email alias. Take a few days to just breathe and process everything without looking at job boards. You put in the work and were a culture carrier, and that dedication speaks to your character, even if this company didn't deserve it. You'll land somewhere that actually respects your contributions.

It is wild to see HubSpot turn into just another corporate machine. They spent years preaching about the 'culture code' and being heart-centered, but when the bottom line hits, they go full cold-blooded. Cutting access in ten minutes is a gutless way to treat loyal staff who built their documentation and systems. It’s a harsh wake-up call that we are all just numbers on a spreadsheet to these executives, no matter how hard we grind or how much 'culture' we carry. Dust yourself off; you clearly have skills that will be better appreciated elsewhere.
