Anyone else noticing the weird shift in performance review calibration?

Is it just me, or has the bar for 'exceeding expectations' suddenly turned into a moving target? I’ve been here for over three years, and while I love the product, the internal vibes are starting to feel a bit like the pre-layoff atmosphere at my last firm. We’re being pushed to hit aggressive quotas, but the support systems feel thinner than ever. I’m hearing whispers about backfilling being frozen for specific pods in GTM, which is usually the canary in the coal mine. Management keeps talking about efficiency and 'streamlining,' but we all know what that actually means when the quarterly numbers miss the mark. If anyone has intel on whether we are looking at a headcount reduction in Q4 or if this is just standard year-end tightening, please share. Getting a little paranoid looking at my calendar invites lately.

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing on the GTM side. It feels like the goalposts aren't just moving; they’re being relocated to a different zip code entirely. When they stop backfilling roles, it’s usually a sign that they’re trying to juice the margins to look better for the upcoming quarter. Honestly, the internal sentiment has shifted from 'we’re scaling' to 'we’re surviving' almost overnight. Keep your resume updated and watch for those internal comms closely—the language has become noticeably more corporate and hollow lately.

That atmosphere sounds painfully familiar. Every time leadership starts doubling down on 'efficiency' while simultaneously pulling back on support resources, the writing is on the wall. I wouldn't stress too much about the calibration specifically—it’s a classic tactic to justify lower bonuses or headcount tightening before they announce any structural changes. You’re definitely not imagining it; the culture feels increasingly disconnected from the reality of the daily grind. Trust your gut and start quietly networking outside the company, just in case things take a harder turn.
