Post-layoff fallout: Anyone else feeling the 'flatter' structure?

It’s been a rough week since the announcement on the 7th. Losing 660 people is no small drop in the bucket, and the vibe in the office—or what’s left of it on Zoom—is just heavy. Management keeps throwing around the 'flatter, faster organization' buzzwords, but honestly, it just feels like we’re being asked to do the work of two people now that the dust is settling. I’ve been here for over three years, and HubSpot used to feel like a place where you could actually grow. Now, it feels like I’m constantly looking over my shoulder wondering if my team is next on the chopping block. The 'culture' we used to brag about feels like a hollow shell of what it was before the growth targets became so aggressive. Is anyone else seeing their managers just… freeze up? I tried to ask about long-term project stability in my 1:1, and I got the standard 'we’re pivoting to focus on core efficiencies' script. It’s draining. I’m starting to update my resume tonight because I don’t think 'flat' is the right word for what’s happening—it feels like we’re just being thinned out to appease the shareholders before the next quarterly check-in. Anyone else just completely burnt out?

I’m right there with you. The 'flatter' narrative is just corporate speak for 'more work for less pay.' I’ve been feeling that same shift in expectations lately, and it’s exhausting. It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re constantly juggling double the load while watching talented people get pushed out. The culture that made this place special really feels like it’s eroding in favor of pure efficiency metrics.

It is honestly surreal how quickly the environment has shifted. Those buzzwords start to lose their meaning when you’re staring at a mounting backlog that used to be handled by a whole team. I know a lot of us are looking around the room—or the screen—wondering who is next. It’s definitely time to tighten up the resume and start putting some feelers out, because this pace isn't sustainable long-term.
