Anyone else notice a spike in mandatory 'skill development' courses?

I'm seeing an unusual number of mandatory training modules popping up in our internal portal. Stuff like 'Adapting to New Workflows,' 'Future-Proofing Your Career,' and a lot about automation and AI integration. It feels a bit excessive, like they're trying to quickly upskill a large group or perhaps get people to 'volunteer' for roles that require these new skills. It's not the usual compliance training; these are lengthy and quite specific. My manager mentioned it's part of a 'strategic initiative' but wouldn't elaborate. It feels like a prelude to something, maybe trying to redeploy people before making tougher decisions. Has anyone else seen this? Especially curious if people in areas like software development or legacy systems are getting similar pushes. Trying to figure out if this is a company-wide push or something specific to my department. The timing also feels a bit coincidental with all the news about layoffs in the tech sector.

Yeah, I've seen that too. It feels like a lot of extra work on top of our regular duties. I wonder if this means significant changes are coming to our roles or the company structure itself. It’s a bit concerning that it's being pushed so hard without much context on how these new skills will actually be utilized or if it impacts our current positions. Hopefully, it leads to something positive and not just busywork.

Interesting you brought this up. I've been getting the same vibe. My suspicion is that it's tied to some larger organizational shifts or new business directions they're rolling out. The focus on automation and AI seems particularly strong, which could mean they're aiming to streamline operations or even restructure certain departments. It's definitely more involved than the standard annual training we usually get.
