The opacity is exactly what makes these cycles so painful. Management loves to frame these layoffs as 'resource actions' or strategic pivots, but when you see empty desks and familiar faces walking out the door, the corporate doublespeak falls completely flat. If the numbers are truly that high, it shows how little the leadership actually values the institutional knowledge being purged. Don't expect HR to give you a straight answer; they are just protecting the company's PR narrative at this point. Start updating your resume and reach out to your network before the dust settles.
I was there too, and the silence in the office is deafening. It’s a classic IBM move—they drop the hammer under the guise of efficiency and leave the survivors to pick up the pieces of multiple jobs without a word of explanation. At this point, the rumors are probably more accurate than any official internal memo we’ll ever receive. It’s clear that they are cutting costs aggressively to balance the books, and unfortunately, we are just line items on a spreadsheet. Take care of yourself, prioritize your own career moves, and don't count on loyalty from the top.
