Anyone else getting grilled about 'low performers' in skip-levels?

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. I'm in a pretty secure group (manufacturing side, 10+ years in), but my skip-level has been pulling managers into these weird 'performance calibration' meetings. It's basically a thinly veiled excuse to justify PIPs, and honestly, it feels like they're just trying to scare people into quitting before they have to offer packages. Anyone else seeing this kind of pressure? Makes me wonder if they're trying to avoid a real layoff by just pushing people out the back door. I'm a bit worried they'll start looking at tenure as a cost factor... and that could impact me. Is this normal Intel paranoia, or is something brewing?

Yep, seeing the same thing in my org (also a long-timer, but on the software side). They're definitely squeezing. My manager's stressed, and it's trickling down. Heard whispers about 'resource balancing' which is corporate speak for 'we overhired and now need to cut costs without admitting it'. Start documenting everything, CYA, and polish up that resume. Time to explore options, even if you don't *want* to leave.

Honestly, I think you're reading too much into it. Performance calibration isn't new; it's usually just a way to ensure consistency in performance ratings. Could be your skip-level is just new to the role and being overly cautious. While it's smart to keep an eye on things, jumping to conclusions about a mass layoff avoidance scheme seems a bit paranoid. Maybe try talking to your manager directly about your concerns?
