Seriously considering leaving Intel, but the market is brutal right now...

I've been at Intel for 12 years, mostly in process engineering. Honestly, the constant reorganizations and the feeling that innovation is slowing down are really getting to me. I'm tired of the bureaucracy and the constant pressure. I'm starting to feel like I'm losing my edge. I'd love to jump ship to a smaller, more agile company, maybe even a startup. But the job market, especially in semiconductors, seems really tough right now with all the recent layoffs across the industry. Is anyone else feeling this way? Is it better to just stick it out and ride the wave, or take the risk and try to find something more fulfilling, even if it means potentially taking a pay cut? This job is killing my soul.

I feel you, man. 12 years is a long time to be dealing with that kind of environment. The big companies always seem to get bogged down eventually. If you're really feeling stagnant, it might be worth taking the risk. Yeah, the market sucks, but good process engineers are always in demand, even if it takes some searching. Maybe try networking hard and see what hidden opportunities are out there.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Left a similar situation (not Intel, but same story) 5 years ago. It was scary, but I've never looked back. Yeah, there are layoffs, but are you willing to just accept the misery for job security? Startups are a mixed bag, though. Be prepared for even MORE pressure, just a different kind. Do your diligence!
