From what I've seen, tenure definitely plays a big role in the severance package. It's usually calculated as X weeks of pay per year of service, but the "X" varies wildly. Also, make sure they pay out your unused vacation time - that's standard practice. You might be able to negotiate a bit, especially if you have unique skills or knowledge they need for a transition period. Document everything!
Honestly, don't get your hopes up too high regarding severance negotiations. Intel's pretty standardized with these things. They might budge a little on outplacement services, but the base severance is usually set in stone. Focus on getting a clear understanding of your benefits continuation (healthcare, stock options) and make sure all the paperwork is correct before signing anything. Also, remember to file for unemployment ASAP after your last day.
