Unusual hiring freeze rumors? Anyone else seeing this?

Hey all, been at Intel for about 7 years now, mostly in the CPU design side. Lately, I've been hearing some really strange things from different corners of the company about a de facto hiring freeze. Not an official announcement or anything, but requisitions are supposedly being held up indefinitely, and new roles aren't even being posted. My own manager is super cagey when I ask about it, just saying things are 'under review.' Is anyone else in a different org seeing this? Feels like a weird way to manage costs if true, especially when we're supposed to be ramping up in some areas. Anyone have intel on why this might be happening or if it's company-wide?

Yeah, I'm seeing similar things over in the graphics division. It's definitely not just you. Been hearing whispers for a few weeks now, and it's starting to impact teams directly. We had a couple of critical roles open for months, and now suddenly they're just…gone. My manager is giving the same song and dance about 'optimization' and 'strategic realignment,' which is corporate speak for 'we're not hiring anyone.' It's unsettling, especially after the recent news cycles. Hopefully, it's temporary.

Hmm, a 'de facto' freeze? That's interesting. I'm in a different area, and things seem business as usual on my end. Hiring is slow, but it always is for certain specialized roles. Maybe it's specific to certain divisions or projects that are being re-evaluated? It's hard to say without concrete info. If it were a real freeze, you'd think there'd be some communication, even if it's just to HR. Keep an ear to the ground, but don't panic just yet.
