Anyone else feel totally blindsided by the June 12th cuts?

Seriously, I'm still reeling. My manager and skip-level were giving us all the 'great work, keep it up' vibes right up until the announcement on Friday. I've been in TurboTax product for 7 years, and never once thought my team was on the chopping block. We just shipped a major Q3 initiative. Now I'm left wondering what the hell went wrong and if there's anything I could have done differently. The severance package seems okay on paper, but the thought of job searching again at this stage... ugh. Anyone else in a similar boat or have any thoughts on what might have triggered this round?

This is incredibly rough. It's completely understandable to feel blindsided when you're being given positive feedback and then something like this happens. That disconnect between the message and the action is jarring. Don't beat yourself up wondering what you could have done differently; these decisions often come from much higher up and can be driven by factors completely outside your control. Focus on taking care of yourself right now. The job market is tough, but you have valuable experience from your 7 years at TurboTax. Lean on your network and take it one step at a time.

Yeah, I'm hearing similar stories across different departments. The 'great work' message seems to have been a common one, which makes the cuts feel even more arbitrary. Honestly, I'm starting to suspect there was a significant strategic shift or financial pressure that wasn't communicated until it was a done deal. It's a tough pill to swallow when you've invested so much time. The severance is one thing, but the emotional toll is real. Start updating that resume and LinkedIn immediately. Network like crazy, even just to vent and get advice. You're not alone in this.
