Sorry to hear that. Eight years is a long time to be at a company. The severance package sounds pretty standard, though. Definitely take advantage of the outplacement services, even if it's just for resume feedback. Polish that LinkedIn profile! Start networking *now*. Don't wait until the severance runs out. Two weeks per year of service is actually not bad compared to some of the other layoffs I've been reading about. I'm always skeptical of those outplacement services, though. Usually just generic advice. But hey, free is free. Did they mention anything about vesting of stock options? That's often the biggest hidden cost in these situations.
