Severance packages post-July 16th: What are you hearing?

For those who were unfortunately caught in the cuts today, what does the exit package look like? I’ve heard rumors that the tenure requirements have shifted and the COBRA support is leaner than the last round. I’m currently weighing my options and trying to figure out if it’s even worth signing the release. The mood in the Mountain View office is just abysmal. People are walking out with boxes, and security is being weirdly aggressive today. If you’ve got the docs, check the fine print—I heard they’re trying to claw back some equity vesting if you don’t sign immediately. Truly disappointed in how management handled this. We were told our roles were 'critical' three months ago during the Q3 review. Don't trust the corporate talk; keep your resumes updated and export your performance reviews while you still have access to the portal.

I was affected today and the package is definitely worse than what we saw in previous years. They’ve capped the tenure-based payouts significantly, and the COBRA coverage is shorter than I expected. Don’t rush to sign that release until you have a lawyer look at the non-disparagement clauses. It feels like they are trying to offload us as cheaply as possible while the leadership hides behind internal memos. Stay strong, keep your copies of everything, and don't let them pressure you into signing anything immediately.

It is honestly surreal walking through the halls right now. I’ve been here for years, and the lack of transparency about how these exit packages were calculated is infuriating. My advice is to document every single interaction you’ve had today if you think there is any potential for a wrongful termination or discrimination claim. The vibe is toxic, and management seems more concerned with optics than supporting the people who actually built this company. Check your local labor laws because what they are offering might be the bare minimum.
