Survived the July 16th round, but at what cost?

I’m still logged in, but the silence on Slack is deafening. I looked at the org chart this morning and half the people I sync with daily are already gone. The invite for the 'Strategic Realignment' call was sent at 6 AM, and by 9 AM, access was revoked for so many talented engineers. It feels like we’re just being liquidated to prop up the stock price for the upcoming quarter. The leadership talk about 'efficiency' and 'focus' is such a slap in the face when you realize they’re gutting the teams that actually maintain the core tax products while chasing the latest tech buzzword. I have zero motivation to push code today knowing that my desk neighbor is currently dealing with severance paperwork. Does anyone know if there’s a second wave coming, or is this it for the July bloodletting?

I went through a similar layoff years ago and that eerie silence on Slack is always the worst part. It’s hard to stay motivated when you see your peers scrubbed from the directory like they never existed. The term 'efficiency' is just corporate speak for cutting costs to satisfy shareholders while the people who actually build the product are left to carry the extra weight. Take some time to breathe and focus on your own mental health right now because this company clearly isn't going to prioritize your wellbeing.

It is brutal to watch your team get gutted like that overnight. Dealing with the fallout of these restructurings is exhausting, especially when management tries to spin it as a positive move for the future. You aren’t crazy for feeling like a line item; that’s exactly how they view everyone. My advice is to update your resume immediately and start testing the market. When the leadership starts trading talent for short-term stock gains, it’s a clear signal that the culture has fundamentally shifted for the worse.
