Hey, I'm really sorry to hear about your layoff. It's a tough situation, especially when you've dedicated five years. I'd definitely recommend connecting with people in departments you're interested in, even before reaching out to HR or hiring managers. Informational interviews can go a long way in showing your continued interest and understanding of other areas. Frame it as wanting to learn about other opportunities within J&J where your skills could be valuable, rather than just looking for a job because yours was cut. Good luck!
Been there. It's a brutal internal market after layoffs, especially if they're freezing hiring in some areas. While reaching out to managers is good, don't discount HR completely. They often have the most up-to-date list of openings and know who's actively recruiting. Try to get on LinkedIn and see who from your network is still at J&J and maybe in departments you'd consider. Sometimes a warm introduction from a current employee can be more effective than a cold email to a hiring manager you don't know. Stay persistent!
