It is honestly exhausting. I’ve seen this cycle play out across three different departments over the last five years. They talk about 'strategic streamlining' or 'investing in core innovation,' but it always seems to translate to the same thing: thinning the herd to make the quarterly margins look pretty for shareholders. You stop building real relationships with colleagues because you’re just waiting for the next announcement to see who is still sitting at their desk. The human cost is never mentioned in the investor slide decks, but it’s definitely felt on the ground.
I understand the frustration, but what do you expect from a company this size? It is just the reality of corporate pharma today. If a site isn't hitting specific output targets or the portfolio shifts away from those therapies, they cut ties immediately. It is business, nothing more. Everyone acts shocked when the WARN notices go out, but this is exactly how they’ve operated for decades. If you’re looking for job security in this sector, you are looking in the wrong place. Keep your resume updated and stop expecting them to act like a family.
