Sorry to hear about the layoff. That's rough after 12 years. Definitely dig into the details of the stock options ASAP. HR might not always give you the clearest picture. Check your original grant agreements and the employee stock purchase plan document. They usually outline the vesting schedule and what happens upon termination. Also, don't be afraid to negotiate the severance package. Sometimes they'll budge a little, especially if you've been a high performer.
Two weeks per year of service seems fairly standard, but I'd be cautious about the outplacement services. They're often generic and not tailored to senior roles. Network, network, network! Reach out to former colleagues, recruiters in the medical device industry, and anyone you know who works in marketing. Your internal network is likely your best bet for landing a new position quickly. Don't rely solely on the outplacement firm to find something.
