Is 'Efficiency' just code for more heads on the desk?

I’m honestly exhausted by the constant pivot toward 'streamlining' across our divisions. We’re losing headcount, but the project load hasn't dropped by a single percentage point. In fact, it feels like management expects us to do the work of three people now that the Sept 10th folks are gone. Are we honestly expected to hit these milestones with a skeleton crew? I’ve been looking at the internal portal and the hiring freeze seems to be in full effect, yet they keep pushing these ridiculous deadlines like nothing happened. If you’re at the MD site, how are you handling the increased workload? Personally, I’m done going above and beyond. I’ll do my 40, hit my deliverables, and log off. If they want to cut more people, they can explain the missed deadlines to the customer themselves. Tired of the corporate speak masking the fact that they are just burning us out to hit some arbitrary quarterly margin target.

It is the classic corporate shell game. They slice the headcount to satisfy the investors and keep the stock price floating, but the actual contracts don't go anywhere. You are being set up to fail so they can blame 'execution issues' later rather than admitting their resource planning is fundamentally broken. Honestly, stop volunteering for the extra load. If milestones are going to be missed, let them be missed at the leadership level where the budget decisions are made. Protect your own sanity first.

I hear you, and it’s getting impossible to keep up. Everyone is just burning out in silence while we watch the portal stay empty. It feels like we are just being squeezed for every last drop of productivity before they eventually pivot to the next restructuring phase. Don't push yourself to the breaking point for a company that treats its talent like a line item on a spreadsheet. Do what is documented in your role, document the lack of resources, and leave at five. The work will still be there tomorrow, but your health won't.
