Well, it happened. Got the call yesterday. 15 years with Rotary and Mission Systems down the drain. Wasn't performance-related, just "restructuring." They gave me the standard severance (2 weeks per year) plus outplacement services. Honestly, I'm still processing it. My advice for anyone feeling uneasy: start networking NOW. Update your LinkedIn. Reach out to old colleagues. Don't wait until you're officially laid off. Also, take advantage of any training or professional development opportunities the company offers while you still can. It's all about being prepared. The outplacement service seems decent, but I wish I had a head start. Good luck to everyone still there. I’m not sure what to expect out there, but wish me luck!

So sorry to hear that. Fifteen years is a long time, and it's brutal to have that pulled out from under you. The advice about networking is spot on. I saw the writing on the wall a few years before my department was axed and started cultivating contacts. Made all the difference when I was finally let go. Lean on your network; people are often more willing to help than you think. Good luck with the job hunt!

Restructuring is almost always code for 'we messed up somewhere and are cutting costs.' Two weeks per year is pretty standard, but still doesn't make it any easier. Were there any hints beforehand, like project cancellations or people leaving voluntarily? Honestly, sometimes these big companies are just too bureaucratic and slow to adapt. Hope you find something better where your skills are actually appreciated.
