Anyone else hearing rumblings about potential cutbacks soon?

Been with Martin Marietta for about 6 years now, mostly in the aggregates side, specifically on the engineering/planning team. Lately, there's been a weird vibe. My direct manager has been super cagey about upcoming projects and staffing levels, and I overheard some upper management talking about 'streamlining operations' and 'optimizing resources.' It's probably nothing, but it's making me a bit anxious. Anyone else in a similar boat or heard any concrete info? Trying not to jump to conclusions, but the silence is deafening.

Hang in there. I've been through a couple of these 'streamlining' periods at other companies, and it can be stressful. My advice? Start quietly updating your resume and networking. Even if it blows over, being prepared never hurts. It's smart to be aware of the whispers. Hopefully, it's just internal restructuring that won't impact the front lines too much, but being proactive gives you options.

Honestly, 'optimizing resources' is corporate speak for 'doing more with less' or sometimes, 'cutting costs.' It doesn't *always* mean layoffs, but it's a definite sign to pay attention. I'm not in aggregates, but I've seen similar language pop up before reductions. Keep your ears open, but don't let it consume you. Focus on doing your job well – that's always your best defense.
