Anyone else noticing the hiring freeze rumors?

I’ve been hearing whispers in the breakroom about a soft freeze on backfills for some of the administrative and support roles. Management keeps talking about 'operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources' during the last few town halls, which usually sounds like corporate-speak for tightening the belt. I’ve been with Martin Marietta for a few years now, and the mood feels a bit heavier than usual. It’s not just the typical end-of-quarter pressure; there seems to be a lot more scrutiny on travel budgets and outside contractors lately. Is anyone else seeing their departments getting told 'no' on requisitions that would have been approved six months ago? Just trying to figure out if this is just standard cost-cutting or if we should be bracing for a bigger announcement once the next earnings call rolls around.

I’ve noticed the same thing at my site. The shift in tone from leadership is definitely palpable. We used to be encouraged to bring on extra help for big projects, but now every single requisition is being audited by someone three levels above us. It’s hard to stay focused on hitting our production targets when you’re watching headcount get carved away bit by bit. Just keep your head down and document everything; the uncertainty is honestly the most exhausting part of the job right now.

Honestly, don't let the rumors distract you too much. This company cycles through 'efficiency' phases every few years like clockwork. I remember similar panic back in 2019, and we ended up being fine. They are just trying to keep margins tight while the market is in this weird transition period. It’s annoying, sure, but it’s just the nature of working for a massive outfit like Martin Marietta. Focus on your specific tasks, stay quiet, and let the corporate games play out without losing sleep over it.
