Better to be prepared than blindsided. Document your accomplishments too. If layoffs happen, having a strong record will help you internally or when you're looking elsewhere. Honestly, I think you're jumping the gun. 'Strategic alignment' is corporate speak for everything from minor process tweaks to full-blown restructuring. While layoffs are *possible*, it could just mean they're shifting priorities or re-evaluating projects. 8 years is a good run; you've likely built up some internal credibility. Try to have an honest conversation with your manager, even if it's just to get a better understanding of the team's goals.
