Anyone else feeling super uneasy at Micron right now?

I've been at Micron for 8 years, in the NAND validation group. Lately, the vibe has been totally off. My manager, who's usually Mr. Positive, seems stressed and keeps having closed-door meetings. There's been a hiring freeze for a while, but now they're also not backfilling people who leave. The official line is "optimizing resources," but come on, we all know what that means. Anyone else hearing rumblings, or am I just paranoid? I'm starting to dust off my resume, just in case.

You're not alone. I'm in a different group, but the same thing is happening here. The "optimizing resources" line is classic corporate speak for layoffs coming. My advice? Start networking now, even internally. Polish that resume and reach out to people you know at other companies. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Good luck!

Honestly, this happens every few years in the memory industry. It's cyclical. Micron's always been a bit like this. Maybe it's nothing more than the usual tightening of the belt during a downturn. However, given your manager's behavior and the hiring freeze, it's smart to be cautious. Don't panic, but keep an eye on things and be ready to move if necessary. Diversify your skillset while you wait.
