Hearing whispers about hiring freeze in certain departments

Hey all, been at Micron for about 7 years now, working in the fab engineering side. Lately, I've been hearing some murmurs from folks in different teams (not my own, thankfully, but close enough to get the info) that there's been an informal hiring freeze put in place for certain non-critical roles. No official announcement, of course, but requisitions seem to be stalled and new projects requiring headcount are being put on indefinite hold. Has anyone else in other orgs or locations picked up on this? Trying to gauge if this is a widespread thing or just isolated to a few areas. Definitely adds to the general unease if true, even if it's not direct layoffs yet. Just want to get a sense of the broader picture.

Interesting. I'm in IT at the Boise campus and haven't heard anything concrete about a freeze here. Our team's been pretty busy keeping things running, and we're actually looking to bring on a couple of new folks for specialized roles next quarter. Could be specific to certain divisions or maybe it's just starting to ripple through. Keep an ear out though, transparency from leadership hasn't always been their strong suit, so unofficial word is often all we get.

Seven years is a good run. I'd be a bit concerned if I were hearing that, especially coming from the fab side which feels pretty core to Micron's operations. My advice would be to document everything you're hearing, even if it's just anecdotal, and keep a close eye on any internal job postings or company-wide communications. If it does become official, it's always good to have a sense of where things stand and to perhaps review your own role's criticality.
