Micron: Hiring freeze rumors vs. internal reality

Seeing conflicting info on the boards today. I’ve heard from a few leads in the Boise office that backfilling is officially on ice unless it’s a 'critical' role, but the career portal still shows positions opening up daily. It’s hard to tell if this is standard fiscal tightening or if we’re actually gearing up for the next round of cuts. My team is currently understaffed by two heads and they told us we aren’t getting any relief until the next budget cycle. If you’re currently interviewing for a role here, take the 'growth opportunities' spiel with a grain of salt. It’s looking like they’re trying to do more with less for the foreseeable future. Anyone actually get an offer letter recently, or did those magically vanish into the ether?

The discrepancy between the careers page and internal reality is a classic Micron move. They keep those postings live to maintain the illusion of growth and to build a pipeline, but don't hold your breath if you're waiting for an offer. My department head confirmed that the budget freeze is very real, regardless of what HR says publicly. It’s better to look elsewhere if you need job security right now; management is clearly just trying to prevent a total talent exodus until the fiscal quarter closes.

I wouldn't stress too much about the conflicting info. This happens every cycle when the company tries to manage its burn rate while keeping up appearances for investors. If you’re already in the pipeline, keep pushing forward, but treat it as a long shot. The 'critical role' distinction is basically a moving goalpost that changes based on who is doing the asking. Just be prepared for a slow process and keep your options open with other semiconductor firms in the meantime.
