Micron: Performance ratings feeling like a setup?

Has anyone else noticed that the bell curve for annual reviews seems way more aggressive this year? I’ve never seen so many people in my group get pushed down to the middle tiers despite hitting all their KPIs. It feels like the company is deliberately creating 'underperformers' to make a future layoff easier to justify legally. I’ve had colleagues who have been here for a decade get told they need 'improvement' for minor documentation issues. It’s definitely a shift in culture from even two years ago. I’m honestly just waiting for the other shoe to drop at this point. Seems like they are trimming the fat by setting people up to fail rather than doing a straightforward reduction. Anyone else getting the same vibe from their PMO?

It is definitely happening across the board. They’ve been tightening the screws on calibration meetings for months now. When leadership needs to trim the headcount, they stop looking at the actual output and start looking for any reason to put a target on someone’s back. If you are hitting your KPIs and still getting squeezed, start updating your resume immediately. It is no longer about how well you do your job; it is about surviving the new artificial quotas they are pushing on every manager.

I honestly think people are reading too much into this. Every major tech firm goes through these cycles of rigorous performance management when the market outlook gets a bit hazy. Micron is just aligning with industry standards to make sure the top performers are the ones being rewarded. If you’ve been doing the same job for ten years without evolving, a reality check on documentation or efficiency isn't necessarily a precursor to a layoff—it’s just a push to get everyone back to a high standard of excellence.
