Quiet period: Has anyone heard about Q3 headcount targets?

Is anyone else feeling the silence from leadership lately? Usually, we get a roadmap update by now, but everything is being kept super tight. I’ve noticed a few teams in Boise haven't backfilled roles that have been open for months, and the 're-alignment' chatter is getting louder in my department. It feels like we are in a holding pattern. I’ve been through a few cycles here before and this 'soft' freeze feels exactly like the calm before the storm. My manager wouldn't confirm or deny anything when I asked about upcoming project funding, just gave me that rehearsed line about 'optimizing operational efficiency.' If you’re seeing budget cuts in your specific unit, please drop a hint. Just trying to figure out if it’s time to polish the resume or if I’m just being paranoid.

I’m seeing the same thing over in the VA site. It’s definitely not just Boise. We have open headcounts that were approved last quarter just sitting there, and the recruiters have gone completely radio silent on them. My lead mentioned that travel budgets are also getting slashed for anything not deemed 'mission-critical.' It’s frustrating because we’re being asked to hit the same aggressive output targets with fewer bodies, but leadership is playing it close to the vest. Expecting an announcement after the quiet period ends, probably something about 'optimizing our resource allocation' to soften the blow.

Honestly, try not to overthink the silence. Every time the company approaches earnings, the internal communications lock down to avoid any potential leaks or compliance issues. It’s standard practice to pause hiring during these windows until the board signs off on the next phase of spending. I’ve been through four of these cycles here, and while the anxiety is real, the 'calm before the storm' feeling is usually just standard corporate caution. Keep your head down, do your work, and wait for the quarterly town hall. Worrying won't change the headcount numbers.
