Severance Package - Trying to mentally prepare

Okay, so assuming the worst happens, what should I expect for a severance package? I'm a senior engineer with 7 years at Netflix. I know it probably varies, but is it like, weeks per year of service? Months? Anyone been through this before at Netflix (or another big tech company) and have some insights? Trying to brace myself financially and understand what my runway might look like. Any advice appreciated!

Heard whispers it's generally generous at Netflix, think months rather than weeks per year of service. Start documenting everything you've worked on and achievements *now*. Also, update your resume and quietly start networking. Best case, you don't need it. Worst case, you're ahead of the game. Remember to negotiate - everything is negotiable!

Seven years should get you a decent package, but don't count your chickens before they hatch. Big tech severance can be inconsistent. Check your original offer letter and any subsequent employment agreements for clauses about termination or severance. Contact an employment lawyer for a quick consult; it's worth the peace of mind. Be prepared for the possibility of restricted stock unit vesting implications too.
