Anyone else seeing performance reviews turn into 'skill assessments'?

Okay, this might be a bit of a stretch, but has anyone else at News Corp had their recent performance review feel less about actual performance and more about… assessing what skills you have versus what they *need*? My manager was asking a lot of pointed questions about my familiarity with new tech and my willingness to take on 'cross-functional projects'. It felt less like a review and more like they were building a spreadsheet of who can do what. This is on the heels of all the 'efficiency' talk. Just wondering if this is a company-wide thing or if I'm just in a department that's being prepped for something.

Yeah, I've seen that trend too. It's like they're trying to re-skill the entire workforce on the fly without any real training or clear direction. My review was similar – lots of questions about emerging technologies and adaptability, which, while important, felt disconnected from my day-to-day responsibilities and actual contributions. Definitely feels like a talent inventory exercise disguised as feedback.
