If layoffs *do* hit News Corp, what's a realistic severance package?

Okay, so no official news yet, but the rumor mill is working overtime here at News Corp. I'm in a senior editorial role, been here over a decade. If the worst happens and cuts come, I'm trying to figure out what a reasonable severance would look like. Does anyone have any intel or experience from previous rounds (if there were any) about how News Corp handles these things? Is it usually based on years of service? Is there a standard number of weeks per year? Any advice on how to negotiate if it comes to that? Just want to be as prepared as possible. Trying not to panic, but being practical. Thanks in advance for any info.

Honestly, with a decade of service in a senior role, you're probably looking at a decent package, but 'realistic' is the key word. News Corp has done layoffs before, though it's been a while for many divisions. I'd expect it to be a formula based on years of service, maybe 2-4 weeks per year, potentially capped. Don't just accept the first offer; if you have leverage, try to negotiate for extended health benefits or outplacement services, especially for senior staff. Having an attorney review the package is always a good idea.

I wouldn't get too worked up about rumors. Companies always have 'rumor mills.' Focus on your performance and documenting your achievements. If layoffs do happen, severance packages are often tied to company policy, which might be standardized. Previous rounds are hard to predict because the economic climate and the specific needs of the business change. Best advice? Keep your resume updated and network outside the company. That's your real leverage, not a severance rumor.
