Is anyone actually surprised by the Sept 16 WARN notice?

Just saw the official filing for the September 16 layoffs. Honestly, at this point, it feels like we’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop every single quarter. Management keeps talking about 'synergies' and 'streamlining workflows,' but we all know it’s just code for squeezing the remaining staff until they break. I spoke to a few people over on the digital side, and the morale is in the basement. It’s hard to stay focused on high-quality journalism when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder wondering if your desk is next on the chopping block. How are you guys handling the communication from leadership? Are they giving you anything substantial, or just the same canned 'difficult but necessary' email? Trying to figure out if I should start prepping the resume now or wait until the next round of 'restructuring' hits.

I stopped being surprised about three rounds of cuts ago. At this point, the term 'restructuring' is just a recurring soundtrack to our daily grind. It is exhausting to watch leadership double down on the same failing strategies while the people actually doing the work are treated like disposable line items. The goalposts keep shifting, and the talent drain is becoming impossible to hide. I genuinely feel for everyone affected by the latest notice; it’s a brutal cycle that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Honestly, the WARN notice is just the latest reminder that we are all just numbers on a spreadsheet to the executives. They use these sanitized buzzwords to mask the reality of a shrinking workforce and a gutted newsroom. It is hard to care about 'brand synergy' when your colleagues are being pushed out the door every few months. I’ve reached the point where I don't even get angry anymore; I just feel numb. If you’re still there, update your resume and start looking for a lifeboat before the next round hits.
