Quietly streamlining or something else?

Been with News Corp for a few years now, and things just feel... different. Not overtly bad, but there's a definite shift. Project scopes seem to be shrinking, and there's a lot more talk about 'efficiency' and 'optimization' in internal comms. Some teams are definitely leaner than they were a year ago, and I haven't seen any new hires come on board in my department for ages. It's not panic mode yet, but the vibe is definitely 'watchful.' Anyone else picking up on this? Is it just a seasonal budget thing, or is this the start of something bigger? Curious to hear if others are feeling the same quiet pressure.

Yeah, I've noticed the same buzz around 'efficiency.' It feels like they're trying to squeeze more out of existing resources. Remember the big expansion phase a few years back? This feels like the opposite. Less investment in new ventures, more focus on making the current operations run as lean as possible. Could be a sign of a broader industry trend, or maybe they're just bracing for tougher economic times. Definitely a shift from growth mode to consolidation.

Interesting you bring this up. The 'streamlining' narrative is pervasive. In my experience, when companies start talking incessantly about optimization and reducing scope, it often precedes more significant restructuring or layoffs, even if it's not immediately apparent. The lack of new hires is a big red flag too. It's smart to be observant; keeping your head down and doing good work is probably the best strategy right now, but don't be surprised if further changes are on the horizon.
