Layoff Report

Anyone else seeing the 2026 layoff round hitting mid-level leadership?

Got the notification this morning. It seems like the 1,400 figure they threw around is mostly hitting the director and manager levels this time around. I’ve been with the company for seven years, through the highs and the lows, but this feels different. The culture is completely shifting from innovation to pure cost-cutting mode. I spent my morning watching colleagues who were supposed to lead the Q4 strategy get their access revoked within minutes. It’s honestly insulting how they frame this as 'streamlining' or 'simplifying the org.' We all know it’s just about hitting those stock targets before the next quarter. I’m currently looking at my severance packet and trying to figure out if it’s even worth trying to fight for more, or if I should just cut my losses and scrub my LinkedIn. Is anyone else feeling like the brand prestige is rapidly eroding? Hard to feel like a 'teammate' when they treat you like a line item on a $2B cost-reduction spreadsheet. Stay safe out there, everyone.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s been brutal watching the shift from the brand’s original spirit to this cold, numbers-driven environment. When the focus moves entirely to restructuring rather than product, it’s usually a sign that leadership has lost its way. Seven years of commitment deserved better than an automated email and revoked access. Take some time for yourself; this industry is changing fast, and your experience will be an asset elsewhere once the initial shock wears off.

This is exactly why I stopped buying into the 'family' culture narrative. They talk about innovation and people, but the second the spreadsheets turn red, the mid-level management is the first to get gutted. It’s not about the individuals anymore; it’s just pure optics for the shareholders. Anyone still holding out hope for a return to the old Nike culture is kidding themselves. Protect your own interests first, because the company certainly isn’t going to look out for you.
