Nike's 1400 layoffs - Is the 'innovation' excuse real?

Just saw the news about another 1400 people out at Nike. They're framing it as part of a 'cost-cutting plan' and 'strategic realignment' focused on 'innovation'. Honestly, sounds like corporate speak for 'we messed up somewhere and need to trim fat'. I've been hearing rumblings about this for a while, especially with some of the digital/direct-to-consumer teams getting smaller. Is anyone else here affected or know someone who is? Curious to hear what the vibe is on the ground. Feels like a lot of talented people are going to be looking for new gigs again. $2 billion in cost cuts is huge. What areas are they *really* cutting from? Feels like more than just 'sustainability' as some other threads are mentioning.

The 'innovation' excuse always feels a bit thin when it comes with mass layoffs. It's tough to see so many people impacted, regardless of the corporate spin. It makes you wonder if the focus on new products is coming at the expense of the people who build and sell them. Hopefully, those affected land on their feet quickly.

Yeah, 'strategic realignment' is a common phrase these days, isn't it? Seems like every few months there's another round of cuts in the tech and retail sectors. It's disheartening to see large companies prioritize profit margins over their workforce. Wishing everyone impacted the best in their job search.
