Sustainability team gutted—what exactly is the vision now?

It’s honestly demoralizing to watch the sustainability department get completely dismantled in this latest round. I’ve been at WHQ for five years and we used to pride ourselves on being the industry leader for responsible innovation. Now it feels like we’re just pivoting back to 'fast fashion' tactics to hit these quarterly targets. Management keeps talking about the $2B cost-cutting plan like it’s a masterstroke, but it just feels like we’re stripping the soul out of the company to juice the stock price for a couple of quarters. If the green initiatives are gone, what are we even building? The morale is at an all-time low, and the 1,400 of us left wondering if we’re next are just counting the days. Everyone is looking at the door at this point.

It is honestly refreshing to see someone else calling this out. The pivot to chasing short-term margins over long-term planetary impact is blatant. Nike built its legacy on being a pioneer in recycled materials and circular design, but now it feels like every meeting is just about inventory turnover and cost-cutting measures. We are becoming just another commodity brand. When you hollow out the very teams responsible for the company’s stated values, the brand promise becomes nothing more than a marketing slogan. It is a race to the bottom.

You are spot on. It is incredibly frustrating to sit in these town halls and hear leadership sell cost-cutting as 'efficiency' when we all know it is a gutting of the innovation pipeline. We are sacrificing our identity to appease analysts who only care about the next three months of data. If the company continues down this path of abandoning its environmental commitments for the sake of quarterly earnings, we are going to lose the loyalty of the next generation of consumers. Profitability is important, but not at the expense of our future.
