I’ve been hearing the exact same rumors circulating in the engineering org. When leadership starts talking about 'impact rankings' and 'operational efficiency' in the same breath, it’s rarely a good sign for job security. The 7% cut was sold as a one-time fix, but the goalposts always seem to shift when quarterly targets get tight. It’s impossible to plan your life when the company culture has shifted from building products to constantly looking over your shoulder to see if you’re next on the chopping block.
Honestly, take those whispers with a grain of salt. Every quarter feels like a cycle of panic where people start overanalyzing every comment from the C-suite. While the pressure to show margins is real, these rank-and-stack exercises are standard corporate theater meant to keep everyone motivated, not necessarily a precursor to a massive layoff event. It sucks not knowing where things stand, but don't let the fear mongering wreck your productivity until you see actual paperwork or an official announcement from HR.
