Question about severance packages

Hypothetically speaking, if there *were* layoffs, does anyone know what the typical severance package looks like at Okta? I've heard rumors about different things – weeks per year of service, continued benefits, etc. – but nothing concrete. I've been here for 5 years in a sales role and trying to get a realistic expectation so I can plan if the worst happens. Also, does anyone know if they negotiate, or is it a take-it-or-leave-it kind of deal?

Honestly, with the recent Auth0 integration issues and the stock performance, it's a valid question to ask. From what I've gathered (purely anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt), Okta's severance has historically been fairly standard – think 2-3 weeks per year of service, plus some extended benefits coverage. Negotiation is tough, but not impossible. Gather any performance reviews that highlight your contributions; they might give you a slight edge.

I've been through a few layoffs in my career, and the best advice I can give is to prepare as if it's happening. Update your resume *now*. Start networking. Don't rely on rumors about severance. While Okta might have had a standard package in the past, things change. Companies often adjust these based on financial performance and other factors. And no, they *rarely* negotiate the initial offer, unless you're executive level or have some special circumstance. Good luck!
