Austin layoff wave: severance packages?

Just got the news this morning regarding the Austin site reductions. It’s a total gut punch. I’ve been here for five years and honestly didn't see this coming, even with all the talk about efficiency targets. Does anyone know what the severance package looks like for the impacted group? I’m hearing rumors of a few weeks of pay, but I want to know if they are offering any COBRA subsidies or outplacement services. The internal communications were vague as usual—just a generic 'restructuring' memo. If anyone is in the same boat or has been through the ON Semi layoff process before, I’d appreciate some insight. Currently just sitting in my car staring at the parking lot trying to process this. Trying to keep it together, but it’s hard not to feel like just another line item on a spreadsheet after putting in so much overtime lately.

I'm really sorry to hear you got hit by this. I was part of a similar round at the Austin site a while back, and honestly, the HR portal should have a specific 'Separation Benefits' document uploaded by now. It usually breaks down the COBRA details and outplacement help. Check your personal email for a link to the severance portal—it's separate from the standard internal site. Don't sign anything immediately; read the fine print on the release of claims carefully before you commit to their package.

It is frustrating how they handle these notifications. When my group was cut, the memo was equally vague, but the actual severance packet they sent via FedEx a few days later was much more detailed. You should see a breakdown of the specific weeks of pay based on your tenure. As for COBRA, they often cover a portion for a limited time, but it varies by level and region. Keep your head up—networking is your best bet right now, as a lot of other semi companies in the area are still hiring despite the market cooling.
