Got laid off from OCI - severance question

Well, it finally happened. Was on the OCI database team and got the news yesterday, same day as the Mint report. Been with Oracle for 6 years, pretty solid performer too, so this one stings. They offered a pretty standard severance package: 2 weeks per year of service, plus 3 months of COBRA. My main question is, has anyone negotiated this before? The offer feels a little low for my tenure, especially given the market. Did anyone have success getting them to increase it, or add other benefits like outplacement services? My skip-level was sympathetic but offered no room for negotiation. Just want to know if it's worth pushing back or if this is pretty much the standard offer across the board. Trying to figure out my next steps.

Sorry to hear about the layoff, that's rough. Six years is a good chunk of time. While Oracle's standard packages can be a bit rigid, it never hurts to try negotiating. Frame it around your contributions and tenure, maybe mention market rates for similar roles if you have data. Don't go in expecting miracles, but a small bump or some extra outplacement services might be achievable if you present your case professionally. Good luck!

Man, that's tough news, especially after 6 years. OCI layoffs have been hitting hard lately. Regarding severance, they usually stick to their formula pretty closely. I've heard of people getting a little more if they have specific skills in high demand or if they push back hard with solid justification, but it's not common. Focus on what you *can* control now – updating your resume and networking. The job market is competitive, so get that search rolling ASAP.
