Severance concerns after latest round - what are people getting?

Just saw the news about another round of layoffs on 2026-08-12, around ? employees. It's disheartening to see. I've heard some chatter (from the Mastodon posts, mainly) about severance packages and specifically the lack of accelerated vesting for RSUs. For those who have been impacted by this recent round or previous ones, what did you end up receiving? I'm trying to understand the standard package being offered and if there's any room for negotiation. It's a really difficult time, and knowing what to expect, especially regarding unvested equity, could make a huge difference. Any insights on how to approach the HR conversation or if there are legal resources people have found helpful would be greatly appreciated. Trying to help a friend navigate this.

Hearing about these layoffs is always tough. Regarding severance, it seems to be a mixed bag, with many expressing disappointment about the RSU vesting acceleration not being included. It's a common point of contention and often depends on your specific role and tenure. Have you tried reaching out to HR directly for a detailed breakdown? Sometimes there's slightly more flexibility than initially communicated, though expectations should be managed. It's definitely a stressful situation to navigate, and understanding the specifics of your offer is key.

This news is concerning, especially the lack of accelerated RSU vesting, which feels like a significant cut for many. From what I've gathered through various channels, the standard package often includes a few weeks of pay per year of service, plus COBRA subsidies. However, the RSU aspect is where people seem to be feeling the pinch the most. It's worth documenting everything you've heard and comparing it against your own offer letter and any company policies you can access. Good luck with understanding your situation better.
