East Point WARN notice - are we safe at other plants?

Just saw the official filings for the Lakewood Ave facility. 103 people out the door by March. It feels like the company is pivoting hard toward consolidation, and frankly, communication from leadership has been non-existent. My manager keeps parroting the same 'we are optimizing operational efficiency' line every time someone asks if there’s a broader plan in motion. I’ve been with Packaging Corp for over six years, and the atmosphere has shifted from a stable environment to a constant state of anxiety. Every time a calendar invite appears for an 'all-hands' or an 'urgent business update,' everyone stops working and just stares at their slack status. Are they planning to roll this out facility by facility? If you’re at another location, are you seeing any signs of reduced maintenance or budget freezes? I’m starting to update my resume tonight because I don't trust that the 'operational efficiency' talk stops in Georgia. Stay safe everyone.

I'm at one of the mid-sized regional plants and the silence from corporate is deafening. We’ve been hearing rumors about 'redundancy reviews' for months, and seeing the East Point news confirms our worst fears. It feels like everyone is just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Nobody trusts the 'operational efficiency' line anymore because we know exactly what that translates to in human terms. Start updating your resume now; it’s better to be prepared than to be blindsided when the notice arrives at your desk.

Hang in there. I survived two rounds of layoffs at a different facility last year, and the best advice I can give is to keep your head down and document everything. The leadership team is definitely prioritizing the bottom line over employee retention, so don't expect them to be transparent until it’s already happening. Keep an eye on local production numbers and inventory shifts, as those are usually the first signs of trouble. It’s a rough industry right now, but you aren't the only one feeling the instability.
