Is the East Point closure just the tip of the iceberg?

With the 103 layoffs in East Point officially posted, I can't help but wonder if Packaging Corp is looking to trim more fat across the regional plants this quarter. The communication from leadership has been absolute radio silence for weeks, and we all know that’s never a good sign. Every time I walk into the breakroom, the vibe is just heavy. People are paranoid about their badge access working when they show up tomorrow morning. For those of you in other locations, have you noticed any sudden 'productivity audits' or consultants hanging around lately? That was the exact precursor to what happened in Georgia. I’m trying to decide if it’s time to start polishing the resume or if I’m just being paranoid. The job market isn't exactly thriving right now, but I don't want to be the last person on the Titanic holding a stapler. Would love to hear if anyone in other regions is sensing a shift in the corporate wind.

The radio silence is definitely intentional. They’ve been cutting costs aggressively for months, and it’s no secret that management is looking to consolidate regional operations to inflate the margins before the fiscal year ends. If you’re at one of the smaller plants, you should be extremely cautious. It’s not just a rumor; the writing is on the wall for anyone paying attention to the supply chain adjustments. Don't wait for an official email because by the time they send one, your access is already revoked.

Honestly, the morale has been abysmal lately, but try not to let the paranoia eat you alive. Layoffs are a standard corporate tactic when the quarterly numbers look stagnant, and East Point was an easy target for efficiency rebalancing. While nobody knows for sure what's coming next, keep your resume updated and stay focused on your specific line. We are all feeling the same pressure, but panicking won't make your job any safer. Just keep your head down, do your shift, and see how the next board meeting plays out.
