Heard whispers of "efficiency measures" - anyone know anything?

I'm a senior engineer on the Cortex XDR team, been here almost 5 years. Lately, I've been hearing a lot of hushed conversations and vague terms like "efficiency measures" and "resource optimization" being thrown around in meetings. My manager has been super evasive anytime I try to get any specifics, just saying "focus on your work" and giving me the corporate runaround. Honestly, it's making me really anxious. Has anyone else heard anything similar in their departments? Are we looking at another round of layoffs? The silence from leadership is deafening, and it's making it impossible to focus on actual work. I remember similar things happening before the last restructuring. Wish they would just be transparent about what's going on instead of letting rumors run rampant.

Yeah, those buzzwords are never a good sign. I remember when they used the same language at my last company before announcing a pretty significant layoff. Start polishing up your resume and LinkedIn profile just in case. It's always better to be prepared and get ahead of the curve. Don't panic, but definitely be proactive.

Honestly, it could be nothing. Large companies always have some sort of 'efficiency' initiative going on. Maybe they're just trying to streamline processes or cut down on unnecessary spending. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Wait and see what actually happens before getting too stressed out. It is good to be aware, but don't let the rumor mill get to you.
